Warranty

MADE TO WORK. BUILT TO LAST.

Every Thorn Wood Forge tool is created for a life of real use.

We stand behind the materials and workmanship of the axes, knives and hand-forged tools made in our Somerset workshop. If one of our tools develops a fault because of the way it was made, we will work with you to put it right. This must be raised within 30 days of purchase.

LIMITED CRAFTSMANSHIP WARRANTY

Thorn Wood Forge-made axes, knives and hand-forged tools are covered by our Limited Craftsmanship Warranty.

This warranty covers faults resulting from defective materials or workmanship under normal and appropriate use.

Depending on the product and the nature of the problem, we may:

  • Inspect and repair the original product
  • Replace a defective component
  • Replace the complete product
  • Provide an equivalent replacement if the original product is no longer available

We will determine the most appropriate solution after assessing the product.

WHAT IS COVERED

The warranty covers manufacturing faults affecting the safe use or reasonable performance of the product, including:

  • Defects in the forged tool head or blade
  • Failures caused by incorrect heat treatment
  • Defective materials used during manufacture
  • Faults in the original assembly or fitting
  • Handle or component failure caused by defective workmanship
  • Leatherwork failure caused by defective materials or construction

The handcrafted nature of our products means that small visual differences are normal. Variations in forge texture, finish, colour, timber grain and leather are part of the character of the tool and are not usually considered faults.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

The warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear from regular use
  • Dulling, chipping or rolling of an edge caused through use
  • Surface scratches, marks, staining or patination
  • Rust or corrosion caused by improper storage or maintenance
  • Natural movement, ageing or colour change in timber and leather
  • Accidental damage
  • Damage caused by neglect, misuse or inappropriate use
  • Damage caused by striking stone, hardened steel or unsuitable materials
  • Damage caused by using a tool for throwing, levering or prying
  • Damage caused by using a poll or tool surface for a purpose it was not designed for
  • Damage caused by improper sharpening or excessive heat during grinding
  • Unauthorised alterations, repairs or modifications
  • Loss or theft
  • Cosmetic imperfections that do not affect performance
  • Products sold clearly as seconds where the relevant imperfection was explained before purchase

Routine sharpening, handle maintenance, oiling and general care remain the owner’s responsibility.

HANDLES, SHEATHS AND NATURAL MATERIALS

Timber and leather naturally respond to moisture, temperature, sunlight and use.

Changes in colour, surface texture and fit can occur as these materials age. These changes are not normally manufacturing defects.

A handle or sheath will be covered where its failure results from defective materials or workmanship. Damage caused by poor storage, prolonged exposure to water, excessive dryness, misuse or a lack of reasonable maintenance is not covered.

Please follow the care guidance supplied with your product.

PRODUCTS MADE ON OUR COURSES

Tools created by participants during a Thorn Wood Forge course are not covered by the standard product warranty in the same way as tools manufactured and sold directly by Thorn Wood Forge.

If you experience a problem with a course-made tool, contact us. We will assess the circumstances and do our best to recommend an appropriate solution.

THIRD-PARTY PRODUCTS

Products made by another manufacturer and sold through Thorn Wood Forge may be covered by that manufacturer’s warranty.

Your statutory rights remain with the retailer from whom you purchased the product. Contact us first if something goes wrong with an item purchased directly from Thorn Wood Forge.

MAKING A WARRANTY CLAIM

To start a claim, email admin@thornwoodforge.com with:

  • Your name
  • Order number or other proof of purchase
  • The product name
  • A clear description of the problem
  • Photographs showing the complete product and affected area
  • Details of how the product has been used and maintained

Please stop using the tool if you believe it may be damaged or unsafe.

Do not return a knife, axe or other bladed product without contacting us first. We will provide suitable packaging and return instructions where required.

ASSESSMENT AND RETURNS

We may need to inspect the product before confirming whether a claim is covered.

If the claim is accepted, Thorn Wood Forge will cover the reasonable cost of returning the product and sending the repaired or replacement item.

If the issue is not covered by the warranty, we will explain why. Where possible, we may offer a paid repair, replacement component, rehandling or maintenance service. Any cost will be agreed before work begins.

WARRANTY SCOPE

This warranty applies to qualifying products purchased directly from Thorn Wood Forge or an authorised Thorn Wood Forge stockist. The warranty does not remain with the tool if it is gifted or resold. The warranty covers both UK and international sales.

The warranty does not cover consequential losses or costs that are not reasonably foreseeable. Nothing in this warranty excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful.

YOUR STATUTORY RIGHTS

This warranty is provided in addition to your statutory rights.

Nothing in this warranty limits or removes your rights where a product is faulty, not of satisfactory quality, unfit for its intended purpose or not as described.
