ROOTED IN CRAFT.

Thorn Wood Forge began with a simple belief: the tools we rely on should be made with purpose, used often and built to endure.

With the help of friends and family, an old stable in Hinton St George was transformed into a working forge. Surrounded by the woods and countryside of Somerset, it became a place to design and create exceptional tools for people who feel most at home outdoors.

Today, every Thorn Wood tool is shaped by the same ambition: to combine traditional skill with contemporary materials and create something worthy of being passed from one generation to the next.

OUR STORY

A LIFE SPENT MAKING.

For founder and head blacksmith Joe Garnett, making has always been an obsession.

He began leatherworking at 15, driven by a fascination with materials and the pursuit of getting things right. A love of bushcraft and the outdoors eventually led him to blacksmithing, where he forged his first knife in his parents’ garage using a simple gas forge.

Joe spent the following decade working alongside other smiths, developing his skills as a general blacksmith and applying them to his passion for toolmaking. Thorn Wood Forge brings those experiences together: craft, utility and a deep connection to the natural world.

OUR CRAFT

TRADITION, REFINED.

Every Thorn Wood tool begins with its purpose.

Its proportions, balance, materials and finish are considered around the work it needs to do. Traditional blacksmithing techniques give each piece its character, while contemporary materials and careful design deliver the performance expected from a modern working tool.

These are not objects made to sit untouched. They are made to be carried, relied upon, cared for and marked by use. Tools that become more personal with time and remain useful for generations.
